Steps, Tips, Strategies & Reflections
Each of us has our own life journey to take. At times it can feel as if you are stuck and you don’t know where to start to dig yourself out of the rut you are in with your job, relationship(s), health, finances, life in general. While you may already notice you are feeling anxious or depressed, the ‘rut’ left unchanged is a recipe for future suffering. Here are 3 Steps to take in order to live a more satisfying life.
Values provide a sense of purpose and meaning to our life. Values are very personal and different for different people. They may change over time. What is most important to you and what you want to be about? What is not important to you?
Try out the: Personal Values Card Sort. Place the values in piles of very important to me, important to me, not important to me. Rank your most important values.
Reflect how much time you are spending on activities that are meaningful and important to you? How much of your time is spent on activities that are unimportant and not aligned with your values? How much time has slipped pass without you being aware of how it is spent?
Increase activities in your life that are enjoyable and meaningful to you. If you are a person who has family and friendship at the top of your values list, but you are not connecting with family and friends regularly, creating space in your schedule for meaningful connection will increase your life satisfaction. A SMART Goal might be to have lunch with a friend on Tuesday at 12. If you are a person who values health and wellness, but are unable to find time to take part in physical activity or eat a balanced diet, creating a plan to improve your nutrition or increase activity will move you towards valued-base living. A SMART goal might be to take a yoga class on Saturday at 9.
Today I urge you to take time to reflect on what makes you happy, content, and satisfied. Prioritize your top 5 values, set goals, and create an action plan for increasing enjoyable activities in your life and living a life in line with your values.
